Rosie Mabbs and Martin Shurmer

Martin co-presents with Rosie Mabbs, ‘The Alphabet of Music’ show from 2pm to 4pm on the second Sunday of every month.
Martin was born in Cheltenham (he won’t reveal when) and when he was a tender 18 year old joined the Royal Navy where he enjoyed a glittering career, and seeing active service in the Falklands Conflict.
While serving on HMS Jupiter, sailing to far flung corners of the globe, he became a regular presenter on the ships radio station, playing both vinyl singles and LP’s, which was no easy task on a rolling ship! He also presented daily news on the ship’s TV system.
Martin joined Radio Winchcombe 10 years ago and in his show, he plays a variety of music right across the spectrum. His shows are designed to help start your day with a laugh combined with uplifting music to energise and feel good!
Martin is also a prolific fund raiser! In 2021 he completed a 26 hour sponsored radio marathon. In doing so, he raised over £3,000 for Radio Winchcombe!
Being referred to as a comic genius by the comedian Alan Davis and appearing on the Tim Vine chat show have certainly been Martin’s highlights, as well as presenting on Radio Winchcombe that is!

Rosie is Cheltenham born and bred and has for a many years volunteered on local projects, as well as for Radio Winchcombe. Although Rosie doesn’t have a radio background, she has always loved music. She openly admits now (though not at the time) that she would listen to a little red transistor radio under the bed covers in her youth, when she should have been going to sleep! In her teenage years she would hang around on street corners with a small group listening to the 80s finest offerings, on what would now be classed as a ghetto blaster…she prefers to think of it as innocent educational fun, rather than a misspent youth!

She joined Radio Winchcombe and started co-presenting Hey Winchcombe! with Phill Bird in 2018 and went on to become one of the regular trio presenting ‘After Eight’ until the show ended in April 2024.
