Phill Bird

Phill Bird presents ‘something a little bit different’ on Sunday evenings as well as ‘something a little bit vinyl’ on Tuesdays; both live music shows from 20.00 until 22.00.   Phill has occasional guests on both programmes.  On Sundays guests generally come in to talk about local issues, or well-being related topics; and on Tuesdays he invites folk in to the studio to spin some of their (old) vinyl – either speed 33, 45 or 78 (it’s great fun!).  Being a local church-organist Phill also presents a monthly organ-music show on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 15.00 – ‘pedals, pipes and pistons’.

Having worked in local radio previously, Phill started broadcasting here on Radio Winchcombe in June 2012.  He grew up in Cheltenham and has lived and worked in various parts of the UK, and abroad, though has always gravitated back here to the beautiful north Cotswolds.  His interests and hobbies include holistic health, languages, growing vegetables & foraging, restorative sleep, music (of most types), red wine, healthy eating, vintage buses/trains and warm sunshine!   As well as writing a book incorporating both radio and a model railway coming to life, Phill is currently learning Esperanto.

Despite not having, or watching,  a TV Phill worked in the industry for a number of years.  Some NDAs were signed though he can probably tell you about gigs such as: shooting Daleks in Dr Who, standing-in for Voldemort on Harry Potter, delivering a gun and £30k to Phil Mitchell in EastEnders, being a regular in the Cwm Deri rugby team on Pobol y Cwm, (the long running Welsh soap), and driving an ambulance through the streets of Bristol on BBC’s Casualty (as a regular n/s paramedic)!

All Phill’s shows feature chat, hand-picked music and a ‘joie de vivre’!  Many current and previous shows (including Hey Winchcombe! and ‘after eight’) are available on ‘listen again’ here on the website.    To contact Phill please e-mail the studio, during a live show, or  phillbirdradio@hotmail.co.uk
